The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of 5,936 suspects linked to different crimes and the recovery of 360 prohibited firearms along with 5,952 rounds of live ammunition in recent operations across the country.

Naijaonpoint reports that the arrests cut across offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping, homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, sexual crimes, cultism, and other criminal activities.

According to details shared at a press briefing in Abuja on August 3, 2025, detectives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) carried out coordinated operations that led to several breakthroughs.

One of the cases involved the arrest of a woman identified as Jane Anodua, following a report by the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs on child trafficking.

She was arrested in Rivers State, and her confession led to the rescue of four children, including two ten-year-old girls, who have since been reunited with their parents.

In another case, on July 13, 2025, operatives intercepted a suspected gunrunner, Tanfa Binbol, who confessed to supplying arms between Taraba and Plateau States.

A search of his residence led to the recovery of rifles, pistols, and a pump-action gun.

Similarly, on July 27, 2025, another suspect, Jerauji Ibrahim from Adamawa State, was arrested with two AK-47 rifles, magazines, and live ammunition.

Other raids also yielded the recovery of more firearms, including AK-47 rifles, a G-3 rifle, a submachine gun, locally fabricated pistols, and revolvers from various criminal hideouts.

The police leadership restated its commitment to tackling gunrunning, curbing the spread of illegal weapons, and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
