The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi quarters, Kano Municipal LGA.

The arrests followed a directive from Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police, and were executed through an intelligence-driven operation supervised by Ibrahim Bakori, commissioner of police in Kano.

Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspects are Umar Auwalu, 23, Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo, 21.

He disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation conducted between 10 pm on Saturday and 4 am on Sunday.

Kiyawa said preliminary investigations revealed that Auwalu, a nephew of the slain woman, acted as the leader of the group and confessed to the killings.

According to the spokesperson, Auwalu also admitted that the suspects were responsible for earlier crimes, including the murder and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola quarters of Kano.

Kiyawa said items recovered from the suspects include four blood-stained garments, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club locally referred to as a gora, cash and other dangerous weapons.

The command commended its officers for their prompt action and appreciated residents for their cooperation, while assuring the public that efforts to secure justice and maintain peace in the state would continue as investigations progress.
