The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has arrested four suspects linked to a one-chance robbery and attempted kidnapping, rescuing two victims in the process.
In a statement on Sunday, Josephine Adeh, police spokesperson in the FCT, said the incident occurred on 8 October when the command received a distress call from a victim who alleged that she had been abducted by criminals demanding ₦1 million for her release.
Adeh said operatives from the Life Camp division immediately launched a rescue operation, deploying digital and tactical intelligence to track the suspects.
Part of the statement read: “At about 4:30 a.m. on 9 October, the suspects were arrested at Dape Village after a near-deadly confrontation with the police.
“Two victims were rescued during the operation. However, one of them, who sustained multiple stab wounds inflicted by the suspects, was rushed to Gwarinpa General Hospital for medical treatment.”
The arrested suspects were identified as Solomon Tanko, Samuel Audu, Chigozie Joseph, and Emmanuel Chidiebere.
Adeh said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had carried out several one-chance robberies around the Bannex and Kado areas of Abuja using a vehicle with tinted windows to lure unsuspecting passengers.
“They confessed to picking and robbing six victims, both men and women, before their arrest,” she added.
Items recovered from the suspects included 15 international passports, two daggers, two cutlasses, bloodstained documents, four mobile phones, two hammers, and three biros.
Adeh said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
She quoted the FCT commissioner of police as commending the Life Camp divisional team for their swift response and urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
