The Nigeria Police Force has cleared former Adamawa North Senatorial District lawmaker, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, of a rape allegation levelled against him in September 2025.
The exoneration followed a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police by Mrs Zainab Mohammed, who had accused the former senator of raping Khadija Mohammed at his residence in Katampe Extension, Abuja, on June 29, 2025.
Following the petition, the IGP ordered a comprehensive investigation involving four police units, the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Gender Unit, the National Cybercrime Centre, the Intelligence Tactical Unit, and the Medical Unit.
A copy of the investigation report, dated October 23, 2025, and signed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police at the FCID, stated that the essential elements required to establish the offence of rape were absent.
According to the report, the time lapse between the alleged incident and when it was formally reported undermined the investigation.
“The alleged offence was said to have occurred on June 29, 2025, but was officially reported on September 15, 2025,” the police noted.
A search of the alleged crime scene carried out on October 3, 2025, yielded no incriminating evidence, which investigators attributed to the long gap between the alleged incident and the search.
Medical findings from Deda Hospital, where the alleged victim was reportedly examined on July 10, 2025, further weakened the allegation.
A medical report dated July 11, 2025, indicated that the alleged victim’s hymen was intact and that she was “still a virgin about 11 days after the alleged incident.” Tests for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and syphilis also returned negative results.
The police also disclosed that although the complainant claimed to have preserved vital documents on a mobile phone, the device was never submitted for forensic analysis. Investigators later discovered that the phone had been flashed, making data recovery impossible.
Witness statements were equally cited. According to the report, the security personnel who opened the door for the visitors on the day in question did not witness any rape. Investigators said only three people, the security personnel, Nafisa Mohammed, and Senator Abbo, were present in the residence, and all denied that any rape took place.
The report further revealed that Senator Abbo had earlier accused Khadija Mohammed and Nafisa Mohammed Chigli of stealing his wife’s gold jewellery, an allegation he reportedly lodged at the Dawaki Police Station on July 16, 2025.
Summarising its findings, the police concluded that no incriminating evidence was found through medical, testimonial, or forensic means.
When contacted on Sunday, the former senator declined to comment extensively on the matter, saying only, “God will expose all evil plans against me and reward the doers according to their deeds.”
