Police Confirm Attack On Natasha’s Family House In Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command on Thursday confirmed that gunmen attacked the family residence of the lawmaker representing Kogi Central senatorial district, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in the Obeiba Community, Okehi Local Government Area, on Tuesday night.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, disclosed the incident during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja.

He stated, “The command has been fully briefed on the unfortunate and criminal incident by the Okehi LGA Divisional Police Officer. So far, no arrest has been made. Investigation into the incident has begun, and we shall get to the root of it. We will deal with those criminal elements that carried out the attack.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan also spoke on the attack, stating that the gunmen mistakenly assumed she was present in the town when they targeted her family home.

The senator explained, “During the attack, security operatives and community members responded promptly and chased them off. No one was hurt. A report on the incident was quickly made at the police area command of the LGA.”

In a statement from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team, the attack was described as a “calculated attempt to silence” the senator.

The statement further called for action, urging the Inspector-General of Police to immediately reinstate the senator’s security details to ensure her safety, given the seriousness of the attack.

The statement read, “We condemn the brazen attack on Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s family house in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi, on Tuesday, April 15. We call on the public to remain calm. Her dedication to speak the truth and represent her constituents should not be met with violence and intimidation.”
