The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed claims that it sealed off the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on Monday, stating that its operatives were only deployed to ensure law and order.

Naijaonpoint reports that the clarification follows viral reports that alleged police officers and other security agencies blocked access to the secretariat, preventing the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and heightening internal tensions within the main opposition party.

In a statement signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the Command described the circulating reports as “false and misleading”, urging the public to disregard them.

The statement read, “The FCT Police Command is aware of the news making rounds alleging that Police sealed off the PDP Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and does not reflect the true situation on ground.”

Adeh explained that officers were deployed strictly to maintain public order and ensure safety, in line with their constitutional responsibility.

“At no time was the Secretariat sealed off by the Police,” she added.

The Police spokesperson also cautioned journalists and media outlets to verify reports before publication, especially on sensitive security matters.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, urges media outlets to verify information through the office of the Command police public relations officer before disseminating,” Adeh said.
