Police dismiss officer who ignored transfer, promoted self

The spokesperson for the Cross River Police Command, SP Irene Ugbo, revealed this information during a press briefing in Calabar on Thursday.

Adamu, who had been transferred from the Cross River command to Kaduna nine years ago, failed to comply with the transfer and instead engaged in unauthorized activities in Calabar.

He even went as far as promoting himself to the rank of Superintendent.

Following his arrest, it was disclosed that Adamu had been conducting illicit operations in Calabar, which came to light due to the vigilance of concerned members of the Nasarawa community, a Hausa-Fulani settlement in Calabar municipality that had reportedly suffered from his illegal activities.

Despite not reporting to his new duty station, Adamu continued to receive his salary and operated as an unsupervised “mobile police officer” since the transfer in 2015.

Ugbo confirmed that Adamu has been stripped of his police duties and all police property in his possession has been confiscated.

The case has been brought to court, with the judiciary now responsible for further proceedings following the police department’s actions.
