The Edo State Police Command has begun a search for a man identified as Timothy Gilbert, accused of attacking his partner, 40-year-old Angela Ogah, with acid in Benin City.

The incident reportedly occurred at Ihovbe Quarters in the Ikpoba Hill area, where the suspect allegedly poured acid on Ogah during a heated dispute. Gilbert fled the scene immediately after the attack and has since gone into hiding.

Speaking on Wednesday in Benin, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed that officers are tracking the suspect and called on members of the public to provide useful information that could lead to his arrest.

According to Yamu, the couple had been having disputes linked to alleged infidelity, which escalated into an argument before the assault took place.

He urged individuals in troubled relationships to walk away rather than resort to violence, noting that no emotional relationship should justify harm.

Ogah is currently receiving treatment at a private medical facility, where her condition is said to be critical.

Her lawyer, John Izegaegbe, has petitioned the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, seeking swift action and justice for the victim.

Residents of the community have expressed shock over the incident, while police continue their efforts to apprehend the suspect.
