Police: ‘If Such Conditions Are Imposed, I Will Choose To Remain In Detention’ – Sowore Speaks On Bail

Former presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has announced that he has been granted bail following his questioning by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday.

Sowore, however, declared that he would not accept any bail conditions that compromise his “innocence, dignity, and integrity.”

Naijaonpoint earlier reported that the police summoned the activist to address allegations of resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and actions allegedly intended to prevent arrests.

Speaking via X on Monday, Sowore accused the police of targeting him due to his public criticism of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure extension.

He alleged that the authorities planned to detain him and transport him to Lagos for what he described as a “kangaroo trial.”

In a subsequent update, Sowore disclosed that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police at FID, Dasuki Galandachi, informed him of a bail offer pending the conclusion of investigations.

He wrote, “The DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, at the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja had just informed me that he has instructed his personnel to grant me bail, pending the conclusion of the “investigation”.

“I have also advised the DIG that in accepting “bail”, I will not agree to conditions that compromise my innocence, dignity, and integrity.

“If such unreasonable conditions are imposed, I will choose to remain in detention until I am charged to court, even then I know that there is no crime defined or to be investigated it is just the impunity that has become the hallmark of the PoliceNG hierarchy.”
