The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cautioned members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association against allowing their cattle to roam within Abuja’s city centre, warning that the practice poses traffic and security risks.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Commissioner of Police, CP Saka Adewale, issued the warning during a meeting with leaders of the association on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters in Garki II, Abuja.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday, saying the dialogue was aimed at curbing communal clashes and addressing cattle roaming within the capital.

The session brought together representatives of the three main factions of the herders’ association—Miyetti Allah MACBAN, Miyetti Allah Kautahuri, and Miyetti Allah Falako Yesu-Yesu.

According to Adeh, the Commissioner of Police expressed concern about the frequent involvement of herders in communal conflicts, urging their leaders to ensure discipline among members.

“CP Adewale emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect for the rights of all citizens, while firmly warning against the practice of cattle roaming within the FCT city centre,” the statement noted.

Herders Promise Compliance

In their response, leaders of Miyetti Allah described the engagement as the first of its kind with an FCT police commissioner. They commended the initiative and pledged to implement the agreements reached.

They also assured that feedback would be provided to the Command within one week.

The FCT Police Command, in its statement, reassured residents that it will track compliance with the resolutions, liaise with stakeholders on grazing land issues, and intensify community policing strategies to forestall future clashes.

“The Command will continue to strengthen partnerships with all relevant groups to sustain peace and order in the capital,” Adeh added.
