Operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued a couple and arrested a suspected kidnapper at a forest farm settlement near ItaOgbolu.

The development was disclosed on Wednesday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, Olusola Ayanlade, after a dawn forest breach operation that combined tactical police assets with local intelligence support.

Ayanlade narrated that the operation was ignited at first light after a kidnap alert on the victims’ border-axis farm hut.

“The operation commenced in the early hours of today, November 26, 2025, at about 0530hrs when a distress call reported that Mr David and his wife, residents of Akure, were abducted in their farm hut located along the Ondo–Ekiti border at Odeigede Camp,” he said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police ordered a full asset deployment without delay.

“All operational assets must and should be deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims,” the directive read.

Naijaonpoint reports that operatives from the IjuItaogbolu Division and the State AntiKidnapping Squad moved into the forest alongside local youth volunteers, advancing on foot through difficult terrain.

The police said sustained pressure forced the kidnappers into retreat.

“As pressure from the combined team intensified, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled,” Ayanlade confirmed.

The police said the male victim suffered machete cuts but escaped with his wife before rescue teams reached them. The injured couple was later evacuated by officers. One suspect was arrested inside a hut during a mop-up sweep. Recovered items include a mobile phone, a sword, and a broken bottle.

Officers confirmed the exhibits are secured for forensic and intelligence profiling. The recovered device was identified as a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 belonging to the suspect.

Police said the suspect is cooperating with interrogators, providing leads on fleeing collaborators, while investigations continue.

“The suspect has been cooperating with investigators and giving useful information, aiding ongoing efforts to arrest the fleeing accomplice(s),” the police statement added.

All seized exhibits have been forwarded to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for deeper investigation and tracing.
