The Kebbi State command of the Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested a suspected Lakurawa terrorist and recovered 10 rustled cows in the Bachaka community of Bunza Local Government Area.

Naijaonpoint reports that the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.

He explained that at about 5:30 p.m. on August 31, operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended 42-year-old Salihu Umar, a resident of Dogon Dutse in neighbouring Niger Republic, at the Bachaka cattle market.

According to him, Umar was caught with 10 cows that had been rustled.

Abubakar revealed that investigations showed the cattle belonged to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town, Bunza LGA, who had reported that 68 of his cows were rustled on August 20 by suspected Lakurawa bandits who fled across the border into the Niger Republic.

“This recovery is a remarkable breakthrough,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi, CP Bello Sani, commended the bravery and intelligence-led approach of the Divisional Police Officer, Bachaka, and his men, describing their work as a model of proactive policing.

“The CP charged them to sustain the momentum,” Abubakar noted.

Sani has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for discreet investigation, with a view to tracking down the remaining fleeing gang members and recovering more stolen cattle.

Reiterating the command’s determination to sustain its onslaught against violent crimes, the police boss urged residents of Kebbi to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

“Sani appealed to the people of Kebbi to continue to support the police and other security agencies with accurate and timely information for prompt response,” the statement added.
