A yet-to-be-identified policeman has allegedly shot a teenager, identified simply as DMX, dead in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Punch, the incident occurred on Tuesday after a disagreement between the officer and the victim, which reportedly escalated before the trigger was pulled.
A source familiar with the matter told the publication that the officer allegedly shot the teenager in the leg during the confrontation.
“DMX had an issue with a police officer. The altercation escalated, and the officer shot him in the leg. His friends were alerted, and they came and rushed him to the hospital. The teenager had already lost a significant amount of blood before receiving medical attention,” the source narrated.
The source confirmed that DMX was transported to the hospital by his friends, but he did not survive the injury due to severe loss of blood before doctors could stabilise him.
The matter first gained traction online after an 𝕏 user, @Sturbyrich65562, raised an alarm denying claims that the teenager engaged in a physical confrontation with the policeman.
In his post, the user acknowledged that the victim belonged to a confraternity but insisted he did not attack the officer.
“Naija police killed one of my area gees. Though he’s a member of the Eiye confraternity, he did not fight the policeman.
He was shot in Ibadan. I think the policeman was trigger-happy based on what I heard,” he posted.
He also tagged an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, asking authorities to investigate the conduct of the officer involved.
Naija Confra Corroborates Claims Of Medical Delay
In a separate statement released on Tuesday, Naija Confra said the teenager was taken to the hospital alive, with payment already made for a blood transfusion, but delays persisted even after fees were settled.
“He was rushed to the hospital alive, and payment was made for blood as he was already losing a lot of blood. However, his friends claim that delays and negligence from the hospital, even after payment, contributed to his death,” the platform stated.
The group further disclosed a troubling personal twist surrounding the family of the deceased.
It claimed that DMX’s father is a senior police officer, while the policeman who shot him remains unidentified.
