The Anambra Police Command says its operatives have raided a suspected hideout l in Oko Community, Orumba North Local Government Area (LGA) for hard drugs and made useful breakthrough.
The command’s Spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka and made available to newsmen on Thursday.
Ikenga also stated that the operatives arrested six persons
during the raid and recovered large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs linked to the suspects.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the raid came in the aftermath of an alleged cult war on June 19 in Oko, which led to the death of two persons and abduction of two, leaving four others injured.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, to have emphasised the significant role that substance abuse plays in fueling crime.
Orutugu reportedly, therefore, “directed a major clampdown on all criminal activities in Oko and its environs.
“Consequently, the Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad Enugwu Ukwu in the early hours of June 25 busted a drug den in Oko, caught six suspects and recovered a large quantity of various substances suspected to be hard drugs,” the statement added.
Ikenga gave the list of the suspects to include Joseph Chukwura, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Ifeanyi Agbanari, Chinedu Igwe, Mmadufor Chinecherem, Chibueze Chukwumankpam, and Mmadubom Uchenna.
He also explained that the suspects were all males, between the ages of 24 and 35.
According to him, they are currently undergoing interrogation for necessary information, especially on the recent disturbing incident in Oko.
“Given the above, the command believes that this initiative may help to nip the prevalence of criminal activities in the bud and expose more criminal networks in the area,” Ikenga added. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
