Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have sealed off the National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), located in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Naijaonpoint reports that the development, which happened on Wednesday, follows the escalating leadership crisis in the PDP and Tuesday’s clashes between the faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

As seen in a video of the incident, Police operatives were seen mounting barbed wire to barricade the PDP headquarters.

It would be recalled that the PDP crisis escalated on Tuesday when the two scheduled their meetings for the same day and the same venue.

On their part, the faction led by Governor Makinde, declared that they are ready to give all it takes to ensure the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

This is as he vowed that he and his faction would not vacate the premises of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Headquarters in Abuja because their stand is in defence of democracy.

Governor Makinde made the submission while addressing newsmen following the clash between his faction and the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Following the tension at the headquarters of the PDP in Abuja over attempts to hold parallel meetings, the Police fired tear gas as the crisis escalated.

However, Makinde said they are not just fighting for the PDP, but for the survival of democracy in Nigeria, and the crisis rocking the PDP might get worse before it gets better, but they won’t give up.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Wike-led faction also expelled Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State among others.

Naijaonpoint reports that the faction has also dissolved the party executives in Oyo, Bauchi, Ekiti, Zamfara, Edo and Lagos.

These decisions were taken at the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held in the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Others expelled include former Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja and others, for anti-party activities.

Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the memo for the expulsion, said it was a result of the affected party members’ disregard for court judgements, an action he said put the party in disrepute.
