Osun State Police Command on Friday said it has received credible intelligence indicating that certain unscrupulous politicians were planning to disrupt the resumption of duties by local government employees at various council secretariats across the state.
It subsequently warned that such plans will not be tolerated and will be met with resolute and decisive action by the command to maintain law and order.
This was contained in a statement signed by the state Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
According to Punch report, NULGE had ended its almost 11 months strike on Monday, announcing readiness of the workers to resume on January 5.
The NULGE President, Dr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, on behalf of the union however made some demands saying “Admission of Tenure Expiration: The sacked “APC Yes/No Chairmen” admitted under oath before the Supreme Court in Suit No: SC/CV/773/2025- Attorney-General of Osun State v. Attorney-General of the Federation (which forms part of the judicial record) that they were elected on 15th October, 2022, for a three-year tenure. By effluxion of time, their tenure legally expired on 30th October, 2025.
“Our Prayers: In view of our scheduled resumption on 5th January, 2026, we respectfully request the Security Agencies to: Deploy adequate security to the 30 Local Government councils, Area offices and LCDAs Secretariats to prevent intimidation, harassment, or disruption of lawful duties; Prevent any further illegal occupation of these secretariats by unauthorized persons to ensure public peace.”
The leadership of Osun APC, unimpressed by NULGE alleged meddling in the crises over the control of the local government areas in the state, had alerted the security agencies, saying Ogungbangbe maybe planning disruption of peace in the council areas.
The police command, while handing down warning against any act of lawlessness as the workers return to their duty posts, however said non-employees of LGA must not be seen near the premises of the council secretariats across the state.
The statement party read further, “The Osun State Police Command has received credible intelligence indicating that certain unscrupulous politicians are planning to disrupt the peaceful resumption of duties by local government employees at various council secretariats.
“Such malicious plans will not be tolerated and will be met with resolute and decisive action by the command to maintain law and order.
“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, hereby warns that any individual who is not a bonafide staff member of the local government authorities must refrain from approaching or loitering around the secretariats.”
The police command further said personnel have been directed to “deal firmly and professionally with anyone attempting to incite unrest or cause disturbances.The command will not permit miscreants to undermine the peace and tranquility that have been diligently sustained in the state.”
The CP also reassured the law-abiding residents of the state, of police unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, as its personnel continue to discharge their constitutional duties with vigilance and professionalism
