Polytechnic staff suspends planned three-day warning strike

SSANIP’s National Secretary, Nura Gaya, revealed in a statement that the suspension comes following a meeting facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Labour and Employment, included key stakeholders, representatives from the National Board for Technical Education, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Gaya described the meeting as “characterized by robust engagement,” noting that participants signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the end of the session.

The statement revealed that the government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing SSANIP’s concerns, particularly regarding the rightful career progression of non-teaching staff to CONTEDISS.

“The demands of SSANIP were unanimously recognized as legitimate, and all stakeholders present pledged to work towards a resolution that promotes equity and justice within the Polytechnic system,” Gaya stated.

He further mentioned that the strike was suspended “immediately” to allow the union to monitor developments related to the ongoing review of service schemes.

Recall that SSANIP had announced the strike to protest the alleged career regression of its members within the civil service.

The union expressed appreciation to its members for their solidarity and patience throughout the dispute.

“We commend all members for their vigilance and encourage everyone to remain united as we await the implementation of the agreed measures,” the statement concluded.
