Polytechnics, Colleges Of Education Are Not Inferior – Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has condemned dichotomy in the country’s tertiary education system.

Alausa said the disregard for Polytechnics and Colleges of Education system was misplaced and wrong.

He condemned society’s wrong perception of graduates of the institutions despite their enormous contributions to national development.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Minister stated this on Thursday during a meeting with the Chairmen of the Council of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, in Abuja.

He called for a change in the wrong perception and highlighted the need to promote dignity and quality education.

“There is a negative perception around these institutions, as they are often viewed as inferior and second class.

“These assumptions are absolutely not true. This stigma has led to low enrollment rates and a societal undervaluation of the graduates, despite the enormous contributions these institutions make to national development. Let me state unequivocally that these institutions are not inferior.

“They play a distinct and invaluable role in producing pure manpower, innovative standards, and exceptional educators. It is high time we collectively challenge these negative misconceptions and promote the dignity, relevance, and quality of education and training offered,” he said.

Alausa promised to cooperate with the council and other relevant stakeholders to challenge the misperceptions.

“We, the Federal Ministry of Education are dedicated to build on our relationship with the council and challenge these misperceptions to promote the dignity, relevance, and quality of the education and training they offer,” he stated.
