Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that his principal, President Bola Tinubu, will be remembered by posterity for taking tough but necessary decisions aimed at improving Nigeria’s fortunes.
Speaking on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, Shettima described the President as a leader with the political will to make bold moves.
“In President Bola Tinubu, you have an ally, a friend who grew up in the same ecosystem as you, who speaks your language of business and commerce, who understands the economic terrain, and most importantly, who has the political courage,” Shettima said.
The Vice-President reiterated the administration’s commitment to diversifying the economy, stressing that Tinubu has shown consistency in pursuing reforms that will yield long-term benefits.
He cited the President’s recent trip to Brazil, which led to the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture.
Shettima said the agreements were “deliberate and intentional steps by the President in diversifying the nation’s economy.”
Shettima also disclosed that the Federal Government is considering the establishment of a task team to conceptualise and implement a framework for standardising Nigeria’s architectural landscape.
According to him, the plan is aimed at building good architecture across the country to support sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu for his frequent overseas trips, describing them as insensitive.
On Thursday, the Presidency announced that Tinubu would be embarking on a 10-day vacation to Europe.
“The vacation will last 10 working days,” the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said.
Reacting to the development while speaking to Punch, the PDP Deputy Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, lamented that taxpayers’ money is being wasted on unnecessary trips.
He asserted that the president’s frequent trips show a lack of faith in the country’s health care system.
The PDP leader called on President Tinubu to refrain from seeking re-election, while urging Nigerians to reject both him and the All Progressives Congress.
