Former Sen. representing Bauchi South, Salisu Matori, has urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday.
Matori, who described Buhari as a man of rare integrity, patriotism and moral discipline, said his legacies would endure beyond his lifetime.
He stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.
Matori, a close political associate of Buhari, represented Bauchi South in the Senate from 1999 to 2003, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said President Buhari lived a life devoted to service and simplicity, untouched by the trappings of wealth and power.
“He was never after riches or luxury. His was a disciplined and humble lifestyle. Even in office, he remained true to himself, focused, modest and unwavering in his values,” he said.
The Bauchi political bigwig enjoined Nigerians to pray for the repose of Buhari’s soul, acknowledging that death is a certainty for all.
“Every soul shall taste death. What matters is the legacy we leave behind. Buhari’s was one of service, sacrifice, and sincerity,” he said.
Reflecting on Buhari’s time in office, Matori highlighted his fight against corruption and efforts to rebuild public trust in governance.
“He led with purpose. He reminded the world that leadership can still mean responsibility, not excess,” he said.
The former lawmaker advised Nigerian leaders to draw lessons from Buhari’s life and death.
“Let us remember that power is temporary, but values are eternal. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and reward his dedication with paradise.
“Let his life be a lesson and his legacy a guide,” Matori said, and urged Nigerians to emulate the late president’s principles and pray for divine mercy upon his soul. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
