The presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu failed to cancel his scheduled trips to South Africa and Angola due to several reasons.
Naijaonpoint reports that there have been criticisms of the president for going ahead with his trip, despite the number of killings and kidnappings in recent days.
However, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on Tuesday via his 𝕏 handle, stated that Tinubu is pursuing strategic, multilateral solutions and high-level partnerships at the G20 summit.
According to him, Tinubu has ordered the security forces and federal agencies to prioritise rescue and relief operations, demonstrating operational continuity at home.
He wrote, “The G20 summit is being held on African soil for the first time and this marks a significant milestone for the continent. President Bola Tinubu’s presence will signify Nigeria’s recognition of this milestone while using the opportunity to make a case for Africa’s future in global affairs.
“President Tinubu will seek to build on the success of the last G20 summit in Rio by meeting global partners to shape policies and exchange ideas on various issues affecting the world economy.
“It will be an avenue to uncover new business opportunities for Nigeria as it seeks to strengthen current relations and establish new ones with global business leaders and investors.
“With security expected to be atop the discussions, the summit gives President Tinubu a platform to make a case for Nigeria’s true situation while simultaneously forging regional and global partnerships to combat terrorism in Nigeria and in extension sub-Saharan Africa.
“Also, the ongoing reforms in Nigeria will be discussed.
“To ensure no vacuum in governance is created, Vice President Kashim Shettima has been designated to visit Kebbi where the Incident of school-girls kidnapping has been reported this week.
“Security forces and federal agencies have been ordered to prioritise the rescue and relief operations, demonstrating operational continuity at home.
“This is a clear division of labour; the President pursuing strategic, multilateral solutions and high-level partnerships at the G20 while the Vice-President and security chiefs handle immediate, domestic responses.”
