THE Senate Ad hoc Committee looking into the utilization of a 30 trillion naira Ways and Means facility used between 2015 and 2023 by the previous administration has affirmed that the investigation is still in progress.

The chairman of the Committee, Senator Isah Jibrin from Kogi East, debunked an online report (not Naijatimes) yesterday that suggested the investigation initiated in March 2024 was stalled.

He clarified that though the committee was given a six-week timeline to complete the task and submit a report to the Senate, when inaugurated in March, it however needed more time due to the sensitive nature of the assignment.

Jibrin emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough investigation to uncover factual findings rather than rushing to meet a deadline.

The lawmaker said, “The essence of an investigation is to come up with factual findings and not just roll in report within specified time frame. Investigation on the 30 trillion naira Ways and Means is on course and not in anyway in limbo as insinuated by an online platform.”

The committee chair revealed that necessary inquiries have been carried out, as evident from a recent follow-up letter sent to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

The letter sated June 19, 2024, served as a reminder from Senator Jibrin, outlining the committee’s request for further details regarding Ways and Means spending, which are yet to be provided.

The information required includes specifics on disbursements, recipients, amounts and dates of disbursements, purposes, terms, repayment schedules, and compliance with those schedules.
