The leadership of the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness, associated with popular televangelist Prophet David Owuor, has distanced itself from claims predicting the end of the world.
In a strongly worded statement dated August 1, the church dismissed widespread reports that the world would end on Saturday, August 2, terming them false and malicious.
According to the church, the allegations which purportedly claimed that Owuor predicted the end of the world were intended to harm not only the reputation of the prophet but also the church.
In the statement signed by Senior Archbishop Michael Nieswand, the church stated that the Bible is clear on matters concerning the end of the world and dismissed the claims as a misinterpretation of Scripture.
The church went on to quote the Bible in the book of Matthew 24:36, which states that no one knows the day or hour when the Messiah will return.
“We, the leadership and congregation of the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness, strongly denounce the recent spread of false and misleading information about the world ending on August 2, 2025,” read part of the church’s statement.
“These claims are false, baseless, malicious, and intended to harm not only the reputation of the Prophet of the Lord, David Owuor, and the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness, but also the unity and testimony of our church,” the statement added.
Addressing the claims, the church urged media houses, bloggers, content creators, and social media users to refrain from spreading or entertaining unverified information.
“As believers, we are called to pursue truth, peace, and righteousness. Let us not be quick to spread gossip, but instead be diligent in prayer, discernment, and unity,” the church reiterated.
The doomsday reports, which began circulating on social media in late June this year, sparked mixed reactions, with some online users questioning the credibility of the claims.
While a few appeared to support the prophecy, many dismissed it as a mere rumour, prompting the church to publicly address the matter.
Owuor is one of the prominent religious figures in the world, often known for his grand rallies and all-white suits. Among his followers, he is viewed as a miracle worker and one who has had several encounters with the supernatural world.
