Chicago rapper Lil Durk will not be facing the death penalty, even if he is convicted in his upcoming murder-for-hire trial.
Durk supporters had been concerned that their favorite rapper could lose his life if he were found guilty, but federal prosecutors announced this week that the death penalty is entirely off the table.
Lil Durk is currently facing federal charges in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot linked to the 2022 shooting death of Lul Pab, the cousin of fellow rapper Quando Rondo.
Prosecutors allege that the chart-topping artist orchestrated the attack as retaliation for the 2020 killing of his close friend and collaborator, King Von. They allege that he coordinated travel and offered rewards to those who carried out the shootings.
Durk was arrested in Florida in October 2024 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, among other serious offenses. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail. If convicted, he could face a life sentence. His trial is currently scheduled for October 2025.
