Traders have taken to the streets of Onitsha in Anambra State to protest the recent shutdown of the Main Market by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The traders, in their numbers, blocked the popular Onitsha Head Bridge, preventing travellers and other motorists from accessing the bridge.
A video seen by POLITICS NIGERIA showed the protesters carrying sticks and marching across the streets.
The protesters were also barricading the streets and entrances of the bridge, while chanting, “No way in, no way out. Onitsha to Asaba blocked. Stand till!”
In the video seen, the protesters also chanted, “Soludo, we no go gree o” and “Say no to Monday.”
The Onitsha Head Bridge links Anambra with Delta State, and the protest reportedly disrupted movement in and out of the state.
This protest is a continuation of a previous one by Main Market traders on Tuesday after the governor announced a shutdown of the market over compliance with the Monday sit-at-home imposed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The governor also ordered that the market will remain closed from Tuesday to Friday and open by next Monday – an order which has been condemned by several individuals and groups.
