PSC Extends Police Recruitment Deadline As Applications Hit 400,000

The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have extended the deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks following the receipt of over 400,000 applications nationwide.

Naijaonpoint reports that the application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026.

The extension, according to the PSC, became necessary after a review revealed significant disparities in application numbers across states.

While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high levels of participation, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra posted comparatively low numbers of applicants.

The commission said the extension was aimed at ensuring equitable representation across the federation.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the PSC, Torty Njoku Kalu, the commission urged eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with low participation, to take advantage of the extended window.

“All eligible Nigerians are encouraged to apply through the official recruitment portal,” the statement said.

The PSC and NPF also called on state governments, local government councils, traditional institutions, religious bodies, community leaders and sociocultural organisations to intensify mobilisation and sensitisation efforts ahead of the new deadline.

The commission reiterated its commitment to a fair, transparent and merit-based recruitment process, assuring applicants that all stages of the exercise would be conducted in line with established guidelines.
