The last time that Trabzonspor won the Turkish Super Lig, they were led by Super Eagles forward Anthony Nwakaeme, and this summer, they are looking to sign another Super Eagles star to spearhead their push for the title next season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwakaeme contributed 13 goals and 10 assists to help Trabzonspor win the league in 2022. But since then, things have gone downhill for them.

They have finished 6th, 3rd, and 7th in the Super Lig in the past three seasons, as Galatasaray have dominated all three.

However, the Black Sea Storm are looking to switch things up next season by signing some reinforcements.

Super Eagles star Paul Onuachu has been heavily linked with them in the last 12 months. Recall that he played for the club two seasons ago, when he joined the club from Southampton in a season-long loan deal, and he was massive for them.

That season, Onuachu contributed 15 goals and four assists in 21 appearances. One of his goals was even nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award.

At the end of the loan deal, Trabzonspor tried to make the deal permanent, but they failed to match Southampton’s demands.

This summer, the speculations have continued, even as Southampton have been relegated from the English Premier League, and Onuachu’s value has dropped with one year left on his contract.

Now, it seems Trabzonspor are close to finalizing the transfer. Reports from Fanatik indicate that Trabzonspor are set to conclude the transfer, with Onuachu set to sign a three-year deal.

On Transfermarkt, Onuachu is valued at €6 million, and Trabzonspor are expected to pay around this fee to make the deal happen.

Can Paul Onuachu help Trabzonspor win the Super Lig?

In the just-concluded season, Trabzonspor finished 7th in the Super Lig. But signing Onuachu is a statement of intent, especially as he has shown that he can perform in Turkey.

If they sign more talents this summer, they could give the big boys like Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Galatasaray a push for the title next season.
