Rangers manager Russell Martin has admitted to having conversations with Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers about his future at Ibrox amid reignited speculations of a potential summer exit, Footynaija.com reports.
Dessers has been at the center of unending transfer rumours this summer as clubs from across appear to fancy adding his goal-mouth potency to their forward lines this season.
Greek giants AEK Athens were reportedly in talks with Rangers over the conditions for a 30-year-old striker’s transfer from Scotland to Greece but nothing materialized on that front as both clubs failed to reach an agreement.
With a departure not forthcoming, Dessers has continued to carry out his duties as a Rangers player and is currently recovering from an ankle injury he suffered while in Champions League action for the Ibrox giants.
Martin’s side come up against Club Brugge in the final qualifying round for the league phase of the 25/26 Champions League season and the former Southampton boss addressed questions about his Nigerian striker in his pre-match press conference.

“I think it happens in football, but I’ll go back to Cyriel again. He’s working really hard to get fit, but he’s not there yet; he’ll probably be fit for Wednesday,” Martin said.
So, whilst he’s made it really clear what his intentions are, or what his desire would be, there’s been no problem. He trains properly, performs with the team, he’s been great, but everyone’s different. Every human being is different.
“Cyriel is quite experienced, and some of the guys are really young, so the situation will be cleared up in the next ten days. I’m quite calm about it. Cyriel hasn’t asked to leave. He’s not asked to leave once, but we’ve had a lot of discussions about it , and we’ll see what happens.”
Martin will be hoping his talismanic striker can fully recover in time to contribute against Club Brugge as the Gers will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit on enemy territory after suffering defeat at Ibrox.
