Atlanta rapper Cash Out will be spending the rest of his life behind bars after being hit with a life sentence plus 70 years stemming from a high-profile RICO and sexual trafficking case.
The “Cashin’ Out” hitmaker, real name John-Michael Hakim Gibson, was found guilty last Friday in an Atlanta courtroom on a slew of serious charges, including rape and racketeering.
His sentencing includes life in prison for the rape conviction, with an additional 70 years tacked on for his RICO and related charges.
Prosecutors accused Cash Out, along with his mother, Linda Smith, and cousin, Tyrone Taylor, of running a criminal enterprise that trafficked women into sex work, allegedly using his fame and influence in the music industry to manipulate and coerce victims over several years.
Smith was sentenced to 30 years behind bars on RICO charges, while Taylor received the same sentence as the rapper, life plus 70.
Cash Out saw a brief moment of stardom in the early 2010s. His breakout single “Cashin’ Out” dominated the airwaves in 2012, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Rap Airplay chart. He followed that up with “She Twerkin” in 2014, the same year he dropped his lone studio album, Let’s Get It.
