Mystikal won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
The 54-year-old rapper, born Michael Tyler, was ordered to remain in jail after a Louisiana judge shut down his request for release during a tense hearing in Ascension Parish on Tuesday.
Mystikal is gearing up to fight a series of charges stemming from a 2022 incident, including first-degree rape, domestic abuse battery involving strangulation, and false imprisonment. He has pleaded not guilty. Louisiana First News reports that the rapper’s mother and business manager both appealed to Judge Steven Tureau, telling him they were prepared to keep close watch over the rapper if he were allowed out on bond.
The judge wasn’t convinced.
Instead, Tureau locked in a new trial date of March 30, 2026. The courtroom showdown is expected to stretch for at least a week, with an additional hearing already set for January 21, 2026.
Mystikal previously served prison time for a sexual battery conviction in 2003. Years later, in 2016, he faced kidnapping and sexual assault charges, though prosecutors later dropped that case.
If he is found guilty of the current charges, he faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.
