Ray J is clearing the air about his relationship with late singer Whitney Houston and denies having any involvement in her tragic passing.
Houston passed away on February 11, 2012, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Her body was discovered in the bathtub. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office determined that Houston’s death was an accidental drowning caused by the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.”
“To make me that person when I wasn’t even there [when she died], and then to put ‘murderer’ on top of that [is too much],” he told former football star Cam Newton in a recent interview clip.
During the emotional conversation, Ray J opened up about why he stayed silent for so long in the face of painful speculation surrounding Houston’s death.
“When you know the truth, why do you have to jump out there and try to tell it to everyone,” he questioned, adding, “It’s so distasteful for somebody to tell somebody [else] something that the other person can’t respond to. To me, it’s unfair. But now that the sh-t’s going everywhere, it’s just hurtful.”
Ray J also addressed rumors that he had used drugs with the late music icon. While he firmly denied ever doing so, he stopped short of commenting on whether he ever witnessed Houston using substances alone.
“I’ve never done one drug with Whitney,” he told Newton, but declined to elaborate further on her alleged personal drug use.
