Nigerian striker Akor Adams scored the winning goal for Sevilla in their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigerian attackers Adams and Chidera Ejuke were in the matchday squad for Sevilla’s at Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, home of Rayo Vallecano, but they both started from the bench.
Vallecano dominated proceedings in the first half, but they failed to score, and only managed to force Sevilla’s goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to make two saves.
In the second half, the Madrid-based club continued to dominate proceedings. But they still failed to convert their dominance to goals.
Coach Matias Almeyda decided to introduce Nigerian striker Adams into the game in the 69th minute, to give Sevilla an extra bite in the final third.
That decision took just about 18 minutes to pay off, as Adams scored the winning goal in the 87th minute.

The former Flying Eagles star showed his killer instinct in the box, making a thunderous run from midfield to provide an option for Jose Angel Carmona, who made a quick dash into Rayo Vallecano’s area.
The Spaniard then set a cross into the area, which Adams jumped at with glee and struck a thunderous shot from close range, which hit the crossbar and nestled in the bottom-corner of the net.
Rayo Vallecano pushed for an equalizer late into the game, but Sevilla held on strong to see out the 1-0 victory.
Akor Adams Finally Breaks La Liga Duck After Nine Months
Akor Adams joined Sevilla from French Ligue 1 club Montpellier during the January transfer market. But his time in Spain has been characterised by injuries.
In fact, his appearance against Rayo Vallecano was just his ninth La Liga appearance for the club. He will be happy that he finally found the net for Sevilla for the first time in La Liga.

Adams will now be hoping that this opens the floodgates for him and the goals keep coming.
