Real Madrid and Austria star David Alaba received a hero’s welcome in Lagos as he paid a visit to the iconic New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Footynaija.com reports.
The versatile defender, who boasts Nigerian heritage, was warmly embraced by fans during his tour of the cultural hotspot founded by Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.
Videos circulating online showed Alaba arriving at the Shrine, where he was quickly surrounded by admirers eager for photos and autographs.

Managed today by Fela’s children, Femi and Yeni Kuti, the New Afrika Shrine is not just a music venue — it is a symbol of Afrobeat culture and a major tourist attraction, home to the annual Felabration music festival and historical photo exhibitions celebrating Fela’s legacy.
Alaba’s visit comes during a difficult 2024/25 season with Real Madrid, as the defender has been battling persistent injury setbacks.
Despite his fitness struggles, the former Bayern Munich star remains a vital part of the project at the Santiago Bernabeu, bringing leadership and composure to the backline.
The Nigerian-Austrian was instrumental in Real Madrid’s 2023/24 campaign, helping the Spanish giants lift both the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles. His only goal that season came in the Supercopa final.
Widely regarded as one of the best Austrian players of all time, the 32-year-old Alaba was voted Austrian Footballer of the Year on ten occasions.
