Reconstruction of Bodija market roads commences soon – Makinde

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says the reconstruction of all internal roads of the Bodija International Market, Ibadan, will commence in August.

Makinde disclosed this in Ibadan on Tuesday during a meeting with members and executives of the Bodija Market Association.

He stated that the market’s internal roads project would enhance trading activities when completed.

The governor, represented by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Babatunde Tijani, underscored the importance of the market to the state’s economic growth.

He appealed to market men and women not to obstruct the contractor while carrying out the work, noting that their cooperation would enhance the speedy completion of the project.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that an 18-seater bus, donated by the governor, was handed over to the leader of the association, Alhaji Jimoh Aderemi.

Makinde said the donation fulfilled one of the demands made by the market leaders.

He added that the road reconstruction contract was another demand the government had fulfilled.

He, therefore, urged market leaders to continue to maintain peace and order in the market.

In his remarks, the leader of the association, Aderemi, appreciated the Makinde-led administration for the bus.

He promised that members of the association would not relent in supporting the administration’s policies toward the betterment of the state.

NAN reports that the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, and the Ibadan North Local Government Chairman, Mr Seun Onifade, attended the meeting.

The President-General of the Oyo State Market Association, Alhaji Yekinni Abas, and the leader of Bodija Market Women, Alhaja Sikiratu Adebayo, also witnessed the event. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
