The United States government has reiterated its stand that visa application fees remain non-refundable and non-transferable.
The position of the government was communicated in a statement on Tuesday by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria via its official 𝕏 account.
The statement acknowledged concerns and frustrations raised by several individuals regarding U.S. visa application fees but noted that the fees are non-refundable and non-transferable regardless of the outcome of such applications.
It therefore urged applicants to prepare well and make use of available resources on the mission’s website in preparing and submitting their applications, Naijaonpoint reports.
“We hear your concerns regarding U.S. visa application fees. Like most countries, U.S. visa fees cover the cost of processing the application, regardless of the outcome. While fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, each application is reviewed thoroughly and fairly. For best results, prepare your application carefully and use the resources on our website,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the suspect in the killing of US conservative activist, Charlie Kirk, is set to be charged in a Utah court on Tuesday, authorities have confirmed.
Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump and founder of the conservative youth movement Turning Point USA, was shot dead last week while speaking at a Utah university campus.
Police said 22-year-old Tyler Robinson fired a single shot from a rooftop, hitting Kirk in the neck with a rifle. He was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt.
Kirk, a father of two, had built a large following on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, where he championed conservative positions and criticised the transgender rights movement.
Known for his fiery debates at college events, Kirk often posted edited clips of his exchanges to energise his audience. His influence made him a polarising figure in US politics, widely admired by conservatives but criticised by progressives.
The handling of the investigation has sparked controversy. FBI Director, Kash Patel, faced criticism after wrongly announcing the arrest of another suspect, who was later released within two hours.
Patel, who Trump appointed to lead the bureau, has drawn criticism from both political camps. He is expected to face tough questioning from a Senate panel on Tuesday, with the Kirk shooting high on the agenda.
