According to our reporter, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has hit back at claims raised during activist Omoyele Sowore’s trial, dismissing attempts to use his past criticisms of President Bola Tinubu. Watch full report
Omokri explained he publicly withdrew those remarks in 2023, after Tinubu’s inauguration and the Supreme Court upheld his election victory.
Responding to Sowore’s lawyer’s questions on his DSS clearance despite his earlier statements, Omokri stressed that political tensions then influenced his views. However, he formally retracted them, urging Nigerians to support the new administration.
He said, “On the day Tinubu was sworn in, I affirmed him as President and called for unity.” Omokri added that the Supreme Court’s judgment cleared Tinubu of any criminal charges, reinforcing his stance.
Omokri insists his changed position should invalidate any use of his old statements against him in court now.
