…as 1,500 students receive N100,000 each
The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bamidele Salam, has empowered students and teachers with bursaries, grants, and items worth over ₦300 million.
The event, which was part of the activities lined up to mark his second anniversary in the 10th National Assembly, was held on Tuesday at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ede.
Speaking at the event, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, commended the initiative, describing it as timely in addressing the educational needs of students and educators across the constituency.
He noted that the intervention complements his administration’s ongoing investment in school infrastructure, teacher capacity, and curriculum development.
According to him, the bursary of ₦100,000 given to 1,500 tertiary institution students will ease financial burdens on families and enable students to focus more on their studies.
The distributed items included textbooks, notebooks, and school bags, resources aimed at enhancing classroom readiness and improving academic performance.
The governor also praised the inclusion of student bodies and professional associations, highlighting that more than 3,000 primary and secondary school pupils benefited from the educational materials.
He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration among government, lawmakers, educators, parents, and communities to build a resilient and inclusive education system in Osun State.
Also speaking, Rep Bamidele Salam explained that his latest intervention was motivated by concern for students struggling to access education due to financial hardship.
He emphasized that education is the foundation of development and stressed that poverty should never be a barrier to learning, noting that every child deserves the best.
The lawmaker revealed that the programme was funded through capital allocations from his 2025 federal budget, with a portion of constituency project funds redirected to support students and teachers.
Salam noted that while items like school bags may appear small, they hold great value in rural communities where some pupils still attend school carrying their books in improvised bags.
He further explained that the effort was designed to ease the burden on parents and motivate students to pursue their dreams in a conducive learning environment.
According to him, the intervention reached no fewer than 1,500 students with bursaries, while about 3,000 students received school bags and other learning materials, bringing the total direct beneficiaries to Over 4,500.
The beneficiaries include students of primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, as well as professional and student bodies. Those who benefited are the Federation of Ede Land Students Union (FESU), Federation of Egbedore Local Government Students Association (FELGSA), Ejigbo Local Government Students Association (ELGASA), and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) from Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, and Egbedore Local Governments.
