Felix Agu was taken off in the first half of Werder Bremen’s 1-0 win over St. Pauli on Saturday…

Super Eagles defender Felix Agu is set to spend several months on the sidelines due to an injury he sustained during Werder Bremen’s game against St. Pauli on Saturday.

The 26-year-old defender was forced off in the 45th minute of Werder Bremen’s Bundesliga clash against St. Pauli last weekend.

His injury came just a day after he was named in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin. As such, it created doubts that Agu would miss both games.

Werder Bremen coach Steffen Horst also revealed that the nature of Agu’s injury would be confirmed after an MRI scan today.

Now, per reports from German outlet Deich Stube, Agu’s injury was a bad one. He suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury and will be out of action for several months.

This type of injury is like an ankle sprain. But it is more of a severe one. And judging by the tone of the report, Agu’s injury is really bad and this type of injury takes between 3-6 months to recover from.

Felix Agu Set To Miss AFCON 2025

As it stands, Felix Agu will likely miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The competition is just over two months away, and it is unlikely that he will recover before then.

This is a big blow for the former Osnabruck man, and he would have been looking to make a mark for Nigeria.

Recall that he just made his debut for Nigeria in June, and he seems to have impressed coach Eric Chelle. But unfortunately for him, he will likely have to sit it out.

Agu will hope to return to action as soon as possible to help Werder Bremen and Nigeria’s Super Eagles achieve success.
