Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has come under fire for his comments perceived as an attack on former Governor Peter Obi. during President Bola Tinubu’s visit on Thursday said, “your visit to Anambra state today is Historic and consequential, the last state visit by a President was in 2012, ostensibly to commission a brewery and another private enterprise.”

Critics have expressed disappointment, arguing that Soludo’s remarks detracted from the opportunity to showcase the state positively.

“It’s very unfortunate for Soludo to take a swipe at Peter Obi during President Tinubu’s visit,” said Ikechukwu Emeka Onyia, a concerned citizen who has been closely following state affairs.

“Soludo made a statement which some of us have to correct him during President Tinubu’s visit. The statement is viewed as an attempt to attack Peter Obi, who Governor Soludo has never shied away from attacking at every opportunity right from the 2023 Presidential election campaign.”

Onyia emphasised the importance of highlighting Anambra’s achievements during such significant visits. “Now let me set the record straight as a citizen of the state who has been following events in our state for years.”

Recalling past presidential visits, he highlighted the contributions made by former Presidents Jonathan and Obasanjo. “In 2012, President Jonathan visited Anambra State and commissioned several key projects, including Orient Petroleum Oil, SabMiller Brewery, and the Onitsha Inland Port, among others. These projects are some of the triggers to economic growth of the state.”

Onyia continued, “In 2010, President Jonathan also commissioned the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital and the National Agency for Food, Drug, Administration and Control’s upgraded laboratory at Agulu, among other significant developments.”

He also referenced President Obasanjo’s earlier visit during Peter Obi’s tenure, noting, “Projects commissioned by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2006/2007 included the Onitsha Business Park and the Anambra State Fire Service Headquarters.”

Expressing disappointment, Onyia concluded, “It was sad to read what Soludo said about the last presidential visit in Anambra. It is a big lie. I have been trying to read what my governor marketed to the visiting President or what he used the opportunity to market as the chief salesman of the state by virtue of his position as the governor, but I am so disappointed with his statement which did not add any value to the state.”

As the discourse continues, many citizens are calling for a more constructive approach to governance and representation at such high-profile events.
