A retired superintendent of the Nigerian Police Force has cried out in frustration after being informed that his pension entitlement is just ₦2 million, despite serving the country for 35 years.

The heartbreaking revelation was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @ChuksEricE, who posted a video of the retired officer expressing his disappointment and disbelief.

According to the officer, he officially retired on October 1, 2023, but had received no payments until recently, when he was contacted about his supposed pension.

“I retired from the Nigerian police in 2023, October 1st. Since then, nothing has been paid to me. Just two weeks ago, they called me and said they’re going to pay me ₦3 million. I asked, ‘What for?’ They said that’s my pension,” the officer lamented.

He further explained that of the ₦3 million, ₦1 million was said to be arrears from the time of his retirement till date, while the remaining ₦2 million was declared as his total pension entitlement.

“The ₦3 million is not just the whole pension. That ₦1 million is my arrears from the time I retired till date, and ₦2 million is my entitlement.”

“I can’t serve this country for a good 35 years and be paid ₦2 million. The devil is a liar.”

The video has since gone viral, with many Nigerians taking to the comment section to express outrage over the poor treatment of retired officers and calling on the federal government and the Inspector General of Police to urgently investigate and intervene.
