The Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has concluded the Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme with a closing ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The event was hosted by the First Lady and National Chairman of the Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
In her remarks, the First Lady congratulated the 2025 cohort and encouraged them not to fear starting small, noting that “one day, somebody will notice your efforts.” She announced that similar ICT training programmes will soon be extended to wives of executives and urged participants across all geopolitical zones to use their newly acquired skills to build a digital future, pursue continuous self-development, and embrace emerging opportunities in the technology space.
She also commended the NITDA Director-General and his team for expanding ICT opportunities for women nationwide.
Earlier, in his welcome address, NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa praised the First Lady’s unwavering support, stating that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda—particularly in economic diversification, human capital development, and digital inclusivity.
He reiterated NITDA’s commitment to building a digitally empowered nation, emphasizing that technology thrives on skilled individuals. Inuwa highlighted the National Digital Literacy Framework, which aims to achieve 95% digital literacy by 2030, with an interim target of 70% by 2027.
Participants underwent three weeks of intensive training, which included device and software usage, content creation, digital marketing, online safety, and basic digital problem-solving.
Highlighting the programme’s rapid growth, the DG noted that 35 women were trained in 2023, 252 in 2024, and 320 in 2025—bringing the total number of beneficiaries to over 600 women.
He added that under the current administration, NITDA has trained more than 1,000,143 Nigerians, including 32,000 civil servants, in digital literacy and related skills.
Inuwa encouraged beneficiaries to return to their communities, apply their knowledge, and mentor at least two to three other women to further expand digital inclusion across the country.
