Rick and Morty is ending, and as funny as the franchise is, the finale’s stakes are deadly serious. Oni Press’ longrunning Rick and Morty comic series has reached “The End,” and in its climactic last issue, Rick Sanchez is a wanted man. “The only one who can bring Rick in warm,” according to the issue’s official synopsis? Morty, of course.
CBR shared the exclusive preview for Rick and Morty: The End #1, written by Daniel Kibblesmith, with art by Jarrett Williams.
The comic’s publisher describes it as “a mega-important milestone,” suggesting that The End will be the start of a new era for the franchise, but what that is won’t be clear until the series wraps up.

The preview pages for the issue shared by CBR find Morty hauled before a cosmic tribunal, facing the charge of “attempted realicide, the murder of every living thing in the Multiverse,” after being tricked by Rick into almost “reboot[ing] all of reality.”
His sentence? For all Morties across all existence to be wiped out. Morty pleads that it was Rick who created “the Rebooter” which almost destroyed reality, and the judges demand to know where Rick is. That is what sets off the Multiverse-wide manhunt for Rick Sanchez. Which the synopsis confirms Morty will join.
Morty has no other choice, of course, if he wants to save himself, and every version of himself. Yet as the synopsis notes, Morty’s also the only one chasing Rick who even cares about him slightly, and wants to try to capture him alive. It’s almost like the set-up for a classic Western flick, more than a Rick and Morty caper.
“Rick And Morty” Is Building Toward A Suitably Epic Ending For The Fan-Favorite Pair
The End Starts Now; The Six-Issue Series Concludes In May 2026
Rick and Morty: The End is slated to run for six issues, meaning fans of the franchise will have time to come to terms with the end of the comic’s run. Oni Press has published over 100 issues of Rick and Morty, and it has become essential reading as a supplemental, expanding the mythology surrounding the TV adventures of the duo.
What’s next for Rick and Morty? That’s a question for after The End. The miniseries’ preview makes it clear the irreverently self-aware franchise was just moments shy of an in-universe reboot before Morty was apprehended. With “the Rebooter” still in play, and Rick on the loose, that means the possibility still looms over this final act for Rick and Morty.
