The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Dockaysworld gathered that during the plenary presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the governor, citing Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.
Jack outlined seven allegations against Fubara, including the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, and refusal to comply with a Supreme Court ruling on the House’s financial autonomy.
The notice, signed by 26 lawmakers, was laid before the Speaker, who said it would be served on the governor within seven days.
The Deputy Leader, Linda Stewart, also presented a separate notice of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu during the same sitting.
The allegations against Odu include reckless and unconstitutional spending, obstructing the Assembly from carrying out its constitutional duties, facilitating unauthorized occupation of offices, and bypassing the House for budgetary approvals.
She was also accused of seizing salaries and allowances meant for the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission.
Recall Governor Fubara finally returned to office in September after 6 months suspended by President Bola Tinubu following a declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers state.
