The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, has rejected a request by the Rivers State House of Assembly to constitute a judicial panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct.

In a letter dated January 20 and addressed to the Speaker of the House, Martins Amawhule, Justice Amadi said he was unable to comply with the request due to an existing court order restraining him from taking such action.

The Assembly had earlier asked the chief judge to set up a seven-member panel to probe the governor and his deputy.

However, Amadi maintained that the court order made it legally impossible for him to proceed with the investigation.

Further details surrounding the court order and the Assembly’s next steps are expected.
