The ruling was delivered in response to a suit (No: OCC/9/2021) filed by Chief Sam Ngbor, who sought a court order to prevent his ex-wife from continuing to bear his name. Following arguments presented by E.O. Erhirhi Esq., counsel for the claimant, and R.U. Egwenre Esq., counsel for the defendant, the court upheld the claimant’s request and issued a directive. The court ruled that Mrs. Kate Ngbor has no legal right to continue using the surname “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor” unless explicitly permitted by her former husband. Consequently, she has been ordered to revert to her maiden name or any other name of her choice, excluding “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor.” Furthermore, the judgment restrains her from presenting herself under the name “Mrs. Kate Ngbor” or “Mrs. Kate Sam-Ngbor” in any manner.
