Rivers Court Remands 8 Persons To Prison For Stabbing Trader To Death At Rupkokwu Intl Market

A magistrate court presided over by Kingsley Briggs has remanded Eight defendants to the Port Harcourt Correctional center for allegedly killing one Ejike Enyadike and stabbing another at Rupkokwu international market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Kingsley Briggs reminded the eight defendants after the Prosecution had informed the court that it has an order of remand brought pursuant to form 18 of the practice direction of the court and counsel to the 2nd, 4th and 6th Defendants in Appling for their bail told the court the his clients were victims of mass arrest and promised that as the legal representative of cow and goat meat Association of the market, the union will work in synergy with security agencies to ensure the arrest of one the main culprit.

The court who after listening to the submissions of the parties, refused the bail application emphasized that Justice is a three way traffic, for the victim, defendant and also the state, held that the court lacks jurisdiction as the alleged crime is murder.

He frowned at the the high rate of incessant criminality in the area and the influx of Hausa and Fulani’s who have turned the market to a danger zone for innocent citizens and adjourned to 27th of November, 2025 for DPP’s advice.
Radio Rivers judiciary Reporter, Nkiru Nnandi reports that the deceased brother in narrating to the court what transpired said that the dispute rose between the deceased and one of the defendants when they were arguing for a space to place their goods in the market which resulted in altercation, the defendant then brought out his dagger and stabbed the victim, while running for his life , the other defendants held him and he was stabbed to dead.
He further narrated that while they were stabbing the victim,, a neighbor who came to rescue him was also stabbed, he was lucky to have survived but is receiving treatment at a hospital.
