The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) on Friday began the distribution of sensitive materials ahead of the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The exercise, which took place at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, witnessed the sorting of materials under the watch of security agencies and political party representatives.

Ad-hoc staff and security operatives were also deployed to local government areas.

The polls will be conducted under the supervision of RSIEC Sole Administrator, Ibas, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

A heavy security presence was observed within and around the RSIEC premises, where movement has been restricted to accredited personnel only.
