THE Rivers State Government has called off the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, in line with the Federal Government’s directive suspending the event nationwide.
In a statement signed by Friday Dede, Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the decision was announced as part of compliance with Abuja’s pronouncement.
“The parade slated for Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary has been cancelled. We regret any inconvenience caused by this cancellation,” the notice read.
The move follows the Federal Government’s announcement yesterday halting the national parade to mark Independence Day.
