As Rivers State prepares for the end of its six-month emergency rule on September 18, the government has announced a public lecture scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt.

The lecture, themed “Democracy and Good Governance,” is part of the official transition programme back to democratic rule in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Ibibia Worika, the State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

The announcement read, “The Rivers State Government is pleased to announce that as part of the transition process in the State, a Public Lecture with the theme, Democracy and Good Governance, will be held at the Banquet Hall, Government House.

“His Excellency, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, Administrator of Rivers State, will be the Special Guest. Invited guests are requested to be seated by 9:30 a.m.”

The lecture comes two days after Ibas led a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt to mark the commencement of the state’s transition programme.

With the expiration of emergency rule days away, attention is now shifting to the return of suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, whose reinstatement has become a subject of heated legal and political debate.
