RIVERS: “I am one of you” sole administrator vows to restore stability

In a state broadcast today from Government House, Port Harcourt, Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding civil liberties and ensuring public safety.

He however, issued a strong warning against crude oil sabotage and violence, urging residents to reject any temptation to revisit past conflicts.

“For decades, I have dedicated my life to serving our great nation—first as the 20th indigenous Chief of Naval Staff and later as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana. I accepted this role out of a deep commitment to peace, particularly in Rivers State,” Ibas stated.

Acknowledging the prolonged political crisis as a setback to governance and democracy, he recognized the hardships it has imposed on families and businesses.

“As a son of the Niger Delta, I share your struggles. I understand the weight of this crisis on families, businesses, and our future,” he said.

Ibas commended President Bola Tinubu’s decisive action in declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a necessary step to restore stability and revive economic activities.

“My mandate is clear: to restore law and order, ensure stability, and create an environment conducive to economic growth. However, this mission requires collective effort from all stakeholders, irrespective of political or ethnic affiliations,” he emphasized.

He cautioned against attacks on oil infrastructure, highlighting the severe environmental and economic consequences of such actions.

“The Niger Delta has moved beyond the destruction of oil facilities. We must resist any urge to return to those dark days,” he warned.

While pledging to uphold civil liberties and the rule of law, Ibas stressed that lawlessness and violence would not be tolerated.

“We will act within the law, but we will not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone who threatens the peace and stability of Rivers State,” he declared.

Following a State Security Council meeting, Ibas revealed that strategic measures had been outlined to reduce tensions and prevent further conflict.

Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility, he also acknowledged the National Assembly for approving the emergency declaration.

“I will work closely with the national leadership under the guidance of the President. I am confident that Rivers State will emerge stronger and more resilient,” he concluded.
